Dear Friend of Opera Vermont,

We hope that you had a wonderfully meaningful Thanksgiving with friends and family yesterday, and enjoy the rest of the holiday weekend. We understand that this email is coming at a time when all of us are in transit, and in preparation for the coming holiday season, so we apologize for the intrusion! It is for this reason, however, that we wanted to contact you at the earliest opportunity to provide you as much time to reconfigure your holiday plans as possible.

It is with the heaviest heart that we share this unfortunate news: despite your enthusiasm and our excitement for this production, we were unable to reach the ticket threshold necessary to present Amahl and the Night Visitors this year, and regrettably, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the performances for this year.

This decision was not made lightly, and we sincerely apologize for any disappointment it may cause. Your unwavering support means everything to us, and we deeply appreciate the trust and love you’ve shown Opera Vermont and in particular our tradition of this production over the last many years.

Thank you endlessly for your understanding, and for being such an integral part of the Opera Vermont family. We are deeply grateful for your continued support and look forward to sharing an unforgettable year of opera with you in 2025, and hopefully the return of this beloved production in December 2025.

From all of us at Opera Vermont, we wish you and your loved ones the happiest of holidays and a joyful New Year with friends, family, and soul-nourishing music!

With endless heartfelt appreciation, and as always, yours,

Opera Vermont

After proclaiming a tradition in 2019, BARN OPERA is delighted to return once again with the same production as our original, with the addition of welcoming our neighbors in Williston as well as Salisbury, being welcomed to the Williston Federated Church in addition to the Salisbury Congregational Church for the second year in a row!

AMAHL AND THE NIGHT VISITORS was the first opera to be broadcast to a national television audience, which catapulted the work to national fame and recognition. The premiere was on December 24, 1951 and was broadcast by NBC. The story concerns a young handicapped boy and his mother, who live in a poor village that is on the route for the three kings to travel to meet the Christ-child after his birth. The kings arrive, weary from their journey and they stop for the night, enjoying the hospitality of Amahl and his Mother. There is a great disparity in the wealth of the kings and Amahl's mother, and socio-economic conflict ensues, with a beautiful and altruistic resolution at the end.

The heartfelt one-act opera is one of the operas most produced by community organizations and churches throughout the country. Due to it being originally written in English, containing wonderful characters and a situation that most of us can identify with on varying levels.
